SPAN: Apply

How to Apply to SPAN

To ensure a smooth entry into the SPAN Division’s Early College Program, the following guidelines should be observed:

  1. Mail in the application form (available on this Web site) along with a copy of any standard testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT) and your high school transcripts at least six weeks prior to the scheduled registration dates for IUPUI.
  2. The SPAN office will notify you of your acceptance, provide counseling, and assist you in registering.
  3. APPLY EARLY! The application process takes at least three weeks under normal circumstances. As the semester start date approaches, the process may take even longer. Do not wait until the last minute to apply. Most classes at IUPUI fill to capacity weeks before the beginning of the semester. Your early application will ensure you have the best selection of courses.
  4. While most colleges accept work completed at other colleges and universities for general credit, some may not accept courses taken before graduation from high school. We suggest, therefore, that you inquire about specific courses at the college of your choice. College courses completed before high school graduation through IUPUI’s SPAN Division do count toward a degree at IUPUI.

The admissions process for SPAN usually takes three to six weeks. Applications will be accepted up to six weeks prior to the actual start date of the semester in which the student is wishing to enroll. Applications received after the deadline will be processed for the following semester. Please feel free to contact Marsha Baker, special programs coordinator, with any questions at 317-274-0382 or via e-mail at ucspan@iupui.edu.

Each year, IUPUI has far more high school seniors apply for college admission than we can accept. We do not accept everybody. By entering the SPAN Division’s Early College Program while in high school, you have preference over the incoming applicants.

Many of IUPUI’s schools of study have been recognized and are emerging as nationally ranked programs. These include the School of Nursing, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, School of Law, Kelley School of Business, and the School of Engineering and Technology. If your student has expressed interest in a specific career or even a general career path, you may be surprised at how close to home a nationally ranked program is located.

The Core 40 Diploma requires your student to complete college preparatory classes and is proof that your student is serious about continuing his or her education beyond high school. Colleges and universities look at this as a plus for their admissions applicants. SPAN staff will help you select the classes required to complete this essential diploma or the academic honors diploma.
