Learning Center: Staff Profiles
Name: Mark Minglin
Title: Director of the Bepko Learning Center
E-mail: mminglin@iupui.edu
Mark Minglin joined the Bepko Learning Center as director in July 2001. A native of Indiana and no stranger to higher education, Minglin has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to IUPUI and the Bepko Learning Center. He completed his college education with a B.S. in Management and M.A. in Higher Education from Ball State University. Afterward, he spent seven years working at Defiance College as the director of Service-Learning and Retention programs. During his time at Defiance College, Minglin had the opportunity to travel to many countries and perform volunteer work with a scholarship group specializing in community service. His experience with service outreach programs ignited a passion for volunteerism and travel, a passion evident in his work with the Bepko Learning Center today.
Since Minglin’s arrival at IUPUI, the Bepko Learning Center has made and continues to make great strides in the areas of academic mentoring and peer support programs. Recently, in 2007, the Bepko Learning Center earned approval from the College Reading and Learning Association to certify our mentors' skills and experience. Furthermore, the Bepko Learning Center has worked diligently under Minglin’s guidance to disseminate best practices by presenting at national and international conferences, such as the National College Learning Center Association national conference in October 2006 and the International Supplemental Instruction Conference in May 2008. The Bepko Learning Center would not be able to progress as much as it has if it were not for Minglin’s strong belief in the philosophy of “peers helping peers.”
