Learning Center: Mentor Celebration

What is the Mentor Celebration?

Each semester University College holds a semiannual Mentor Celebration to recognize the efforts and commitment of mentoring components campuswide. One celebration is held in the fall, and another is held in the spring.

• The Fall Mentor Celebration consists of an informal get-together.
• The Spring Mentor Celebration is a formal gathering, including the end-of-the-year awards, such as the Mentor of the Year, Tonya Conour Faculty Service Award, and the Christine Jakacky Award.
• Some of the components recognized include: Nina Scholars, learning community mentors, Bepko Learning Center academic and resource mentors, PLTL leaders, and other various community mentors for their outstanding work with students.

Who attends?

All IUPUI mentors are invited along with university administrators, staff, and faculty. An electronic invitation is sent out and attendees RSVP. This is a great opportunity to show support for the mentors who have made a difference at IUPUI.

When and where is the Mentor Celebration held?

• The Fall Mentor Celebration is typically held at the Campus Center.
• The Spring Mentor Celebration is much larger and is most commonly held at the University Place Hotel.
• No formal attire is required for the Fall Mentor Celebration, but the Spring Mentor Celebration is business professional. The event time is typically 5:00–7:30 p.m.

What happens at the Mentor Celebration?

Both Mentor Celebrations are catered events. Good food is never scarce at either of these commemorative events, so please come hungry.

• One area that sets the Spring Mentor Celebration apart from the Fall Mentor Celebration is the formal presentation of grants, component and special awards, as well as research poster presentations from mentors in UCOL 204 Mentoring: Independent Study.
• Some of the grant presentations include: University College Leadership Grants, William M. Plater International Scholarship, and the Semester Study Abroad Award.

Please come mingle with and honor those responsible for our impressive mentoring programs and celebrate another semester/year of academic achievement.
